LAKARAN Davao: RO XI Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Region XI held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new office building on July 5, 2024, at the Davao Regional Government Center in Brgy. Bago Oshiro, Davao City.

The ceremony was led by CHR Regional Director Atty. Junitte Rose Barroquillo and attended by CHR Commissioner Beda A. Epres; City Councilor and Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Civil, Political & Human Rights of Davao City, Hon. Bai Hundra Cassandra Dominique Advincula; Assistant Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology XI, Ms. Mirasol Domingo; Bago Oshiro Barangay Captain, Hon. Mark Malaya Peregrino; and GOJUST Monitoring and Evaluation Key Expert, Mr. Arvin Chua.

The new facility aims to enhance the CHR's capacity to serve the community, providing a dedicated space for addressing human rights concerns. It reflects a strengthened commitment to upholding justice and human rights in the region, offering improved resources and accessibility for both staff and the public.

In his speech, Commissioner Epres emphasized that the new CHR XI building will house not only offices but also aspirations. It will be a home for tireless advocates, legal minds, and passionate individuals dedicated to upholding human rights. From legal consultations to awareness campaigns, from fact-finding missions to community dialogues, this building will be the epicenter of CHR XI's collective efforts.

City Councilor Bai Hundra Cassandra Dominique Advincula, representing Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, reiterated the city's commitment to protecting and upholding the dignity and rights of every individual in Davao City and beyond.

The new office building was made possible by the Governance in Justice (GOJUST) II Human Rights Project, through the support of the European Union and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
