The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Regional Office V inaugurated its new Gender and Development (GAD) Training Hall in a ceremony led by CHR Chairperson Richard Palpal-latoc on 17 July 2024.

The newly established training hall aims to enhance the region’s capacity to promote gender equality and empower women through various training programs and workshops.

Chairperson Palpal-latoc, in his message, highlighted the importance of the new GAD Training Hall, which provides a dedicated space for gender-related initiatives at Regional Office V. This facility will enhance avenues for dialogue, advocacy, and empowerment by offering a safe environment for reporting, collaboration, data gathering, and monitoring of human rights concerns.

The event was graced by Legazpi City Mayor Hon. Carmen Geraldine Rosal, AECID Project Manager Almudena Villarino, and CHR RO V Regional Director Atty. Arlene Alangco.

The GAD Training Hall is the third building to be inaugurated this year through the support of the Governance in Justice - The Human Rights Component, led by the Commission on Human Rights and co-funded by the European Union in the Philippines and AECID Philippines.
